Junior Lawyer’s Monthly Budget Breakdown on TikTok

Mia Siddique, a junior associate at Womble Bond Dickinson, has shared her monthly budget on TikTok, offering a glimpse into how a young lawyer manages her finances. Siddique, who qualified into the firm’s Southampton office in September 2023, provides a detailed breakdown of her monthly expenses without disclosing her salary, emphasizing that she does not earn the high junior salaries found in London.

Siddique allocates £1,400 each month for mortgage repayments and household bills. An additional £250 is set aside for personal bills such as her phone bill and car insurance. For food shopping, she budgets around £220 per month.

The young lawyer also spends £130 monthly on beauty products and treatments, expressing gratitude for the privilege. With a 3-hour commute to the office, where she works once or twice a week, she aims to spend £150 on travel. Birthday presents for friends and family account for £350 of her budget, while £200 is allocated towards furniture and home decor.

This month, Siddique is spending £100 to pay off a previous holiday. Although she planned to spend no more than £200 on eating out, she admits to over spending on this category. Any remaining money at the end of the month goes into her savings.

In the video’s caption, Siddique reflects on her financial journey, from struggling through multiple jobs while studying to living paycheck to paycheck in a council house, to now enjoying financial stability. Viewers in the comments section compared their own financial situations to Siddique’s, with some praising her transparency and others expressing envy or support.
